Location:

The event will be signposted from Red Gate corner on the B1416 Ruswarp to Scarborough road at grid reference NZ 892046.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting location.

Take great care if approaching Red Gates from the north.  Give way to oncoming traffic coming around the corner.

Drive for 2 km, then go through the May Beck public car park and continue up the hill on the forest road.  The postcode for nearby Old May Beck Farm is YO22 5JE.

Parking will be at the side of the forest road near Pike Hill at grid reference NZ 885010.  Assembly will be close to parking.

Terrain:

Coniferous plantation of variable age.  The bracken and brambles are minimal so far ...... but the bracken is sprouting quickly.

Geological note:  Pike Hill is (almost) the eastern limit of the Cleveland Dyke, which is the longest igneous intrusion in the British Isles and can be traced from here to the isle of Mull.

Safety:

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport on difficult terrain – you must accept much of the responsibility for your own safety.

There are no cliffs or steep slopes in the competition area, but the usual forest hazards – branches, brashings, ditches and marshes – need to be considered.  Yellow/black tape may be used to mark a hidden deep ditch.

Full leg cover is compulsory.
