Short Orienteering Race in
Runswick Bay

This is the first race of the Autumn Short Race Series held between October and December 2017.

Newcomers to orienteering:   Help and advice will be available at this event.  Just come along and ask!


Runswick is on the north-east coast 8 miles north-west of Whitby and 6 miles east of Loftus.  It is signed from the A174 at Hinderwell (from the north) and Ellerby (from the south).  When in the village, follow the sign for "Runswick Bay Beach" and descend a short steep road.  Park either in the pay-and-display car park or on the roadside.  The nearest postcode is TS13 5HT.

Registration is in the Fisherman's Institute and is a short (signed) walk from parking.


Small seaside village with narrow streets and passageways, steps and steep hills.

Please be considerate to other people and respect private and/or out-of-bounds places as shown on the map.


There will be three courses available, with winning times of about 15 minutes:
>>  Juniors (M/W14-);
>>  Youth/Vets (M/W18- and M/W55+); and
>>  Open.

Scale 1:2,000   5m contours   A4 size.   A brand new map by Paul Taylor.  The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

Please note that if there is an unexpectedly large entry you may be asked to recycle your map so that others can run.

Punching system: This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.  If you have your own SI card then please bring it along to Registration.  SI cards will be available for hire on the day at a cost of £1 each.  Please look after yours as lost cards will be charged at £40.

Registration: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.     Starts: 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.     Courses close at 12 noon.

The Start will be close to Registration.


Seniors:  £4.00     Juniors (M/W20-) and Students:  £1.50

You can run a second course for free, but if you intend to do this please try to start your first run early, and make sure you register again so we know who is still out.

There is no need to pre-enter for this event, but if you are bringing a group then please contact the Organiser in advance so that we can print enough maps.

Facilities: Toilets available at Registration.
Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome at this event.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.
