Short Orienteering Race in
Yarm School

This is the fourth and final race of the Autumn Short Race Series held between October and December 2017.

Newcomers to orienteering:   Help and advice will be available at this event.  Just come along and ask!


The entrance to Yarm School is at grid reference NZ 420123 on the A67 just south of the centre of Yarm.  The postcode is TS15 9EJ.

Please use the school car parks, which are approximately 200 metres along the main drive.  Then walk up alongside that main drive to Registration.

Terrain: Wooded school grounds and complex buildings.

There will be three courses available:

Open:1.9 km     29 controls
Youth / Vet(M/W18- and M/W55+):    1.2 km19 controls
Junior (M/W14-):0.8 km13 controls

Please note that the course lengths are measured along straight lines between the contols, not along the optimum routes.

There is negligible climb on the courses.

Scale 1:2,000   ISSOM 'sprint' standard.   Updated for this event.  The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

Please note that if there is an unexpectedly large entry you may be asked to recycle your map so that others can run.

Punching system: This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.  If you have your own SI card then please bring it along to Registration.  SI cards will be available to borrow on the day at no charge.  Please look after yours, as lost cards will be charged at £40.

Registration: 10 a.m. to 10:30 a.m.     Starts: 10:15 a.m. to 11 a.m.     Courses close at 12 noon.


Seniors:  £4.00     Juniors (M/W20-) and Students:  £1.50

You can run a second course for free, but if you intend to do this please try to start your first run early, and make sure you register again so we know who is still out.

There is no need to pre-enter for this event, but if you are bringing a group then please contact the Organiser in advance so that we can print enough maps.

Please stay around after your run for the presentations to the series winners.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.
Please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.
Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
