Parking and Registration are on the forest track at the eastern end of Coate Moor wood at grid reference NZ 605105.  The nearest postcode is YO21 2RT.

Please approach via Kildale Village, from where the event will be signed.  (Please do not come via Gribdale Terrace, as this would take you along a gated road and through a farmyard.)

Please share transport wherever possible.


Runnable mixed woodland and open moorland around Captain Cook's Monument, with plenty of paths and walls and contour and rock features.

Due to the possibility of bad weather at this time of the year it may be necessary for cagoules to be made compulsory.  Please come prepared!

This event is part of the North East Orienteering League (NEOL).  The recommended allocation of age classes to courses is as follows:-

Scale 1:10,000 with 5m contours.     A4 size     The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

An undergrowth / vegetation screen has been added (where applicable) to areas with controls, although please note that, to improve readability, it has not been applied on the open moorland and "white" wood.

Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.

SI-cards will be available for hire on the evening at a cost of £1 each.  Please look after your hired SI card as there will be a £40 charge for any lost SI-card.


10 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. ..... but see below for special arrangements for helpers and people needing split starts.

Note: If you are bringing a group to this event then please contact the Organiser in advance – preferably by Wednesday 7‑Feb‑2018 – so that we can arrange to print enough maps.


10:30 a.m. - 12 noon         Courses close at 1:30 p.m. due to the time of year.

The Start and Finish are close to the Assembly / parking area.

Helpers and those needing split starts:  Please arrive early, register before 10 a.m. and start promptly at 10 a.m.

Please bring your own drinks for after your run.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome, but must be kept on leads and stay in the parking area.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
