invites you to a Summer Series evening event (Level D) in
Coatham Woods

This is the first event in a series of six.


Parking and Registration will be in the public car park off the minor road (Long Newton Lane) between Long Newton and Urlay Nook.  The entrance to the car park is at grid reference NZ 396154.

Terrain: Coatham Woods is a young established wood with a large path/track network on a relatively flat area.  This wood is used by many local people from the surrounding area, and runners should take this into consideration when taking part in the event.
Long~2.5 km with 35m climb
Medium     ~3.8 km with 30m climb
Short~2.7 km with 25m climb

The Short course is suitable for Juniors / beginners.

You can run a second course for free!  If you'd like to do this, please turn up early for your first run so that you have time to complete your second run before the courses close.


Scale 1:10,000     A4 size.

The control descriptions will be printed on the maps, and separate loose copies will be available at Registration.

Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.

SI-cards will be available for loan on the evening free of charge.  Please look after your borrowed SI card as there will be a £40 charge if you lose it.

Registration: 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.
Starts: 5 p.m. - 6:30 p.m.         Courses close at 8 p.m.
Seniors on the Medium or Long course:     £4.00
Seniors on the Short course:£1.50
Juniors / Students (with ID):£1.50

First aid at Registration.

Please note that there will be no toilets at this event.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome at this event and can be taken out into the competition area.

Lone drivers: Please leave your labelled car keys at Registration as a safety check.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
