invites you to a NE Urban League and UK Urban League event in
Barnard Castle
on Sunday 22nd July 2018

The event will take place in the charming town of Barnard Castle in Teesdale, County Durham.

Parking will be on a hard-standing car park within the grounds of the magnificent Bowes Museum.  The Bowes Museum postcode is DL12 8NP and the grid reference of the entrance is NZ 055162.  Parking will be signposted to the left of the main building.

Assembly will be adjacent to parking.

Terrain: Varied urban terrain with small alleyways, residential areas and the museum grounds.

Seven courses are offered.  Competitors aged 16 or over on the day of the event may run any course.  Under 16s may only run courses F or G.

The recommended allocation of age classes to courses is as follows:-

1:4,000 scale.     A3 size for courses A-E, and A4 for courses F and G.     The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

The control descriptions will be printed on the maps, and separate loose copies will be available at Registration.

Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.

SIAC cards will operate in touch-free mode.

SI-cards will be available for hire on the day at a cost of £1 each.  Please look after your hired SI card as there will be a £40 charge for any lost SI-card.

Entries: Entry on the day.  There will be no pre-entries for this event.

10 a.m. - 12 noon

Note: If you are bringing a group to this event then please contact the Organiser in advance – preferably by Wednesday 18‑Jul‑2018 – so that we can arrange to print enough maps.


10:15 a.m. - 12:15 p.m.         Courses close at 2 p.m.

The Start and Finish are adjacent to Registration.

Seniors:£7.00   (£2 surcharge for non-members of British Orienteering)
Juniors / Students    £2.00 

Any adult doing course F or G will pay the Junior fee (£2.00).

Please help us by bringing the correct change.


First Aid and toilets will be available next to the parking area.

There will be no drinks at the Finish.  Please bring your own.

There is a cafe in the museum and a good selection of eating places in the town.

In addition to Bowes Museum, the town also has two English Heritage sites – a ruined castle (Barnard Castle!) and the ruined Egglestone Abbey.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome in the car park, but are not allowed out on to the courses.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Lone drivers: Please leave labelled car keys at Registration.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

The Organiser's mobile phone number will be the emergency number for competitors.

Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
