October Odyssey Weekend

ELIGIBILITY INFORMATION AND ALLOCATION OF CLASSES TO COURSES

CLOK logo

Anyone can choose to run any course, but you need to enter the correct competition class if you wish to (a) be eligible for an October Odyssey prize, (b) be competitive in the NE Orienteering Championships, (c) earn points in the NE Orienteering League and/or (d) be eligible for Junior Interland selection.

See below for the allocation of competition classes to the NEOL categories and the weekend's courses.

If you wish to be eligible for an October Odyssey prize you need to (i) enter the same competition class on both days, and (ii) enter a competition class for which you are eligible (see below).

If you wish to be competitive in the NE Orienteering championships, for the Sunday event you need to enter a competition class for which you are eligible (see below).

If you wish to earn points in the NE Orienteering League, for the Sunday event you need to enter a competition class which maps to a NEOL category for which you are eligible.

Unfortunately, it is not possible for an M18, an M20 or an M35 to both (i) be competitive in the NE Championships and (ii) earn points in the NE Orienteering League, because those three competition classes are allocated to the Brown course for the purposes of the October Odyssey and the NE Championships, but would need to run the Black course to earn points in the Men Open NEOL category.  W18, W20 and W35 are in a similar position.  Sorry.

Juniors wishing to be considered for selection for the 2019 Junior Interland event need to enter their 2019 age class.  So, for example, a second year M14 needs to enter the M16 class (and run the Blue course) in order to be considered for Interland selection.  If you are in doubt about this, ask!

You can "run up" and be competitive.  For example, an M60 wishing to run the Brown course can enter as an M50 (or an M45, an M40 or an M35!) and be competitive.  See below for more information about eligibility.

If you wish to "run down"; i.e. to run a shorter course than is allocated to your actual age class, please enter the "open" competition class for the relevant course.  For example, an M40 wishing to run the Blue course should enter the Blue (open) class.  However, don't enter an "open" competition class if you wish to be eligible for an October Odyssey prize, to be competitive in the NE Championships, to earn points in the NE Orienteering League or to be considered for Junior Interland selection.

The following table shows how the competition classes relate to the NEOL categories and the courses.  For example, someone who is eligible to run as a W50 and who chooses to enter the W50 competition class on both days will be competing in the W50 class in the October Odyssey and the NE Championships, will be competing in the Women Vet category in the NE Orienteering League event on the Sunday and will be running on the Blue course.
