Short Orienteering Race in
Kiplin Hall

This is the first race of the Autumn Short Race Series held between October and December 2019.

Newcomers to orienteering:   Help and advice will be available at this event.  Just come along and ask!

Location:

Kiplin Hall is on the south side of the B6271 about halfway between Northallerton and Richmond.  The grid reference is SE 274975 and the postcode is DL10 6AT.

Parking will be on hard standing.

Registration will be nearby.

Terrain:

Extensive parkland, with some wooded areas, plus Kiplin Hall's buildings and gardens and a complex orchard area.

Shorts may be worn.

Courses:

There will be three courses available, each with a winning time of about 15 minutes:-
>>  Juniors (M/W14-);
>>  Youth / Vets (M/W18- and M/W55+); and
>>  Open

Map:

Scale 1:4,000   Size A4   The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

Please note that if there is an unexpectedly large entry you may be asked to recycle your map so that others can run.

Control descriptions will be printed on the map and available separately.

Punching system:

This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.  The controls (but not the Start and Finish boxes) will be enabled for touch-free SIAC punching.

If you have your own SI-card then please bring it along to Registration.

SI-cards (non-SIAC) will be available to borrow on the day at no charge.  Please look after yours, as there will be a £20 charge for any lost SI-card.

Times:

Registration: 9:30 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.     Starts: 9:45 a.m. to 10:15 a.m.     Courses close at 11:30 a.m.

Note:  The times for this event are earlier than usual so that people can also go to Day 1 of the October Odyssey, which is being held in Hexham.

Entries:

Seniors on the Medium or Long course  £4.00
Seniors on the Short course:  £1.50
Juniors (M/W20-) and Students (with ID):  £1.50

You can run a second course for free, but if you intend to do this please try to start your first run early, and make sure you register again so we know who is still out.

There is no need to pre-enter for this event, but if you are bringing a group then please contact the Organiser in advance so that we can print enough maps.

Facilities:

Toilets.  First Aid at Registration.

Please bring your own refreshments or, preferably, visit the Kiplin Hall cafe.  The cafe is in the main building.  It will be open for customers and will welcome orienteering event participants (minus O-shoes!).

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome in the Kiplin Hall grounds but cannot be taken out on the courses.

Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

If you have a relevant medical condition please complete a form at Registration.

Lone drivers: Please leave your labelled car keys at Registration as a safety check.

Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
