Short Orienteering Race in

This is the third race of the Autumn Short Race Series held between October and December 2019.

Newcomers to orienteering:   Help and advice will be available at this event.  Just come along and ask!

Location:

Hardwick Country Park (NZ 346287 and postcodeTS21 2DN) is accessed via the roundabout on the A689 near to Sedgefield. Follow the Brown road signs from the A689.

Parking costs £2 for two hours.

Terrain: All courses will be inside the Country Park with an extensive path network and various features.
Courses:

There will be three courses available, each with a winning time of about 15 minutes:-
>>  Juniors (M/W14-);
>>  Youth / Vets (M/W18- and M/W55+); and
>>  Open

Map:

Scale 1:4,000   5m contours   Size A4   The courses will be overprinted on the maps, which will be printed on waterproof paper.

Please note that if there is an unexpectedly large entry you may be asked to recycle your map so that others can run.

Control descriptions will be printed on the map and available separately.

Punching system:

This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.  The controls (but not the Start and Finish boxes) will be enabled for touch-free SIAC punching.

If you have your own SI-card then please bring it along to Registration.

SI-cards (non-SIAC) will be available to borrow on the day at no charge.  Please look after yours, as there will be a £20 charge for any lost SI-card.

Times: Registration: 10:15 a.m. to 10:45 a.m.
Starts: 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
Courses close at 12:00 noon.
The later than normal start is at the request of the park staff to allow the parkrun to finish.
Entries:

Seniors on the Medium or Long course  £4.00
Seniors on the Short course:  £1.50
Juniors (M/W20-) and Students (with ID):  £1.50

You can run a second course for free, but if you intend to do this please try to start your first run early, and make sure you register again so we know who is still out.

There is no need to pre-enter for this event, but if you are bringing a group then please contact the Organiser in advance so that we can print enough maps.

Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

If you have a relevant medical condition please complete a form at Registration.

Lone drivers: Please leave your labelled car keys at Registration as a safety check.

Insurance: Please note that if you have competed in three orienteering events registered with British Orienteering and you have not joined an orienteering club which is a member of British Orienteering then you are not covered by our public liability insurance.
