LAGGANLIA TOUR REPORT 2024

This summer I was lucky enough to be selected to go to Lagganlia.  I was really happy to be picked as I love orienteering in Scotland and I wanted to improve my orienteering skills.  Lagganlia is near Aviemore, in the Scottish Highlands.  I drove there and it took over 5 hours in the car!

I got there on the Saturday at 5:30 p.m. and met all the other orienteers.  On the first day we did some short courses and met our coaches.  I had Ian Maxwell and Sarah.  First we did some short courses focusing on pacing and bearings, then we did a clock relay which was confusing but fun!  On our second day we all had to draw a sketch map of a course at North Granish which we then had to use, so the map had to be good.  In the afternoon we did an odds and evens relay in the rain and we all got drenched.

On the third day we had a long drive to Roseisle and I was shadowed around some difficult courses in the green areas.  I also did some long legs, which are the things I find most difficult.  Then we had the 'distraction race' where we had gaffled courses and were set off randomly.  It was really fun because there were distractions all round the course, like music, people calling your name, a photographer and coaches cheering you on!

On the fourth day we had sprint relays.  The first round was at Glenmore Lodge and the second one was at Badaguish.  I got through to the final, which was also in Badaguish.  After the sprints we got to look around the shops in Aviemore and we all bought lots of nice snacks.  Then we went for a quick swim in the loch, which was freezing.  After dinner we went to a golf course to do some night orienteering, that was my favourite part of the week.

Here are some photos from the week.  (Click on any photo to see a larger version.)
