Terrain: |
Follow this link to see the new map of Bowesfield Nature Reserve. The competition area is a mixture of pleasant mature woodland and rough open areas with scattered trees and bushes. There are many paths of varying sizes, and there are lots of ponds. In the northern part of the map there is an industrial estate and a small residential area. Important note: In order to avoid disturbing nesting wildfowl, Tees Wildlife Trust don't want us to go too close to the large ponds. The courses will be planned to enable you to go past these ponds on the paths. Please do so. A dual carriageway and the the River Tees run through the mapped area. These are both strictly out of bounds. Courses that cross the dual carriageway will use an underpass. IMPORTANT SAFETY NOTICE: There are some patches of giant hogweed in Bowesfield Nature Reserve. Giant hogweed sap contains toxic chemicals that can cause your skin to burn and blister when it's exposed to light. Further information including photos of the really rather unpleasant blistering can be found on the CBS News web site. Please make sure that you know what giant hogweed looks like there will be a photo in the Start area and take care to avoid it during your run. | ||||||||||||||||
