CLOK logo
Location:

West Park is on the west side of the A68 Bishop Auckland road on the northern edge of Darlington.

You should be able to park in the Aldi / M&S car park.  The postcode is DL2 2GZ, and the What3words reference of the entrance to the car park is ///fade.factories.cried.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting point.

Registration will be in the White Heifer That Travelled pub, which is across the road from the Aldi / M&S car park.

Terrain:

Urban park and quiet housing areas.

Anyone under 16 on the day of the event must be accompanied by an adult.

Please bring:

  • A torch – preferably a head torch.
  • Hi-viz clothing so that you can be seen while you're running ..... particularly by drivers, but also by pedestrians.
  • A pen to write the numbers on your control card.  (See the Format section below.)
  • A watch that you can use to time your 45 minutes.  Please note that this event will be self-timed.  We are trusting participants to report their total running times accurately.
Format:

45 minute score.

Visit as many as controls as you can within the 45-minute time limit.  Each control is worth 10 points.  If you exceed the time limit you will lose 5 points for each minute or part minute that you are late getting to the Finish.

Score events involve the extra challenges of (a) deciding the best sequence of controls to visit and (b) judging whether you have time to visit that one last control and still get back to the Finish in time to avoid losing points due to lateness.

Each control is at a lamp post.  Each lamp post is identified by a number (3 or 5 digits).  The control card gives the first 1 or 3 digits for each control.  You need to write the final two digits in the relevant box on the control card.  For example, if the lamp post number at control #4 is 56789 then box 4 on the control card will be labelled 567 and you need to write down 89 in that box.

As it is a 45 minute score event, everyone should be finished by 8:15 p.m.

Covid-19
and other
respiratory
infections:

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate at high levels in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

Please:-

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.
