Pie & peas supper update
The pie & peas suppers will cost around £5.50 - £6.  The meat pie will be mince & onion, and there will be a vegetarian pie option as well.  The golf club needs to know definite numbers by Friday, so if you'd like a pie & peas supper after your run then please make sure that you register your interest via Racesignup by Thursday 23‑Feb‑2023.
Location:

The event will take place on Romanby Golf Course, west of Northallerton.

Please note that there will be no orienteering signs to this event.

Parking will be in the Golf Club car park.  Access is from the B6217 (Yafforth Road) between Northallerton and Yafforth.  The postcode is DL7 0PE and the What3words reference is ///intruders.images.riots.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting location.

Please be courteous to golfers sharing the car park and facilities with us.  (They won't be using the golf course itself, but the driving range and clubhouse will be open.)

Terrain:

This is a rare opportunity to run on this area.

The competition area is a golf course and surrounding grounds.  It consists of very open 'parkland', with short cut grass interspersed with small copses of deciduous and coniferous trees.  The area is gently undulating with no significant undergrowth, even in the trees, and the terrain is ideal for fast running.  The competition area is intersected by the River Wiske, which is only crossable via the bridges.

There are three ponds and a number of ditches, bunkers and steep slopes.  All of these should be visible even in low light, and are well away from optimal routes.

Notes:

  • Shorts may be worn.
  • Sand bunkers, raised tees and putting greens are out of bounds and must not be crossed.

Important safety note:  The most significant risk to competitors at this event is running on to the driving range.  This area is clearly lit and visible on all sides, and will be pointed out at the Start.  Also, please treat all the water features (i.e. the three ponds and the River Wiske) as uncrossable.

Courses:

There are two courses, each planned to have winning times of around 20 - 35 minutes.

Course  Length

Covid-19
and other
respiratory
infections:

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate at high levels in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

Please:-

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Lone drivers:  Please leave your labelled car keys at Download as a safety check.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
