CLOK logo
Location:

The event will take place on Wilton Golf Course.

Parking will be in the Wilton Golf Club car park.  Access is from the A174 near Wilton Site.  The postcode is TS10 4QY and the What3words reference is ///throw.lease.tune.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting location.

The CLOK Annual General Meeting will be held in the golf clubhouse at 7 p.m.

Terrain:

The competition area is a golf course.  It consists of very open 'parkland', with short cut grass interspersed with small copses of trees.  There is no undergrowth, and the area is ideal for fast running.  There are plenty of ridges and minor contour details throughout.

The area is split into two parts, separated by a path.  The Southern part nudges the edge of the Eston Hills and falls away towards the A174.  The Northern part has two ditches, approximately 1m deep and 1m wide, which are marked with yellow posts at each end.  Both the courses run close to these ditches, which may not be very obvious in twilight conditions.  There is also a pond, which should be visible even in low light and, in any case, is well away from optimal routes.

Notes:

  • Shorts may be worn.
  • Sand bunkers and putting greens are out of bounds and must not be crossed.
Courses:
Course  Length
Long4.6 km
Short   2.8 km

There is very little climb on the courses – certainly not enough to slow you down very much.

Control descriptions will be printed on the maps, and loose copies will be available at the Start.

Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.

The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish.

You can arrange to borrow an SI-card by adding the request to your entry in Racesignup.  Please collect your loan SI-card from Download before your run and return it as you download after your run.  Take care of your loan SI-card, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it.

Entries:

If at all possible, please pre-enter via the Racesignup online entry system.

The entry deadline is midnight on Tuesday 10‑Oct‑2023.  We need the numbers by then so that we can order the buffet for the AGM.

When you put in your entry via Racesignup, please indicate whether you would like the buffet.

There will be very limited entry on the day, subject to the availability of maps, and a few SI cards will be available to borrow.

There is no charge for participating in this event.  You can "pay" for your run by attending the AGM!

Starts:

5:30 p.m. - 6 p.m.       Courses close at 6:45 p.m.

The Start and Finish are both within 5 minutes walk from the car park.

Particularly for Juniors who haven't done night / dusk events before ..... the earlier you start, the more light you'll have during your run.

Results:

There will be no results displayed at the event.

Results and split times will be available at www.clok.org.uk as soon as possible after the event.  (Last year the Webmaster managed to get the results on to the web site by the end of the evening ...... but he's making no promises about repeating that feat this year!)

Facilities:

Toilet in the golf clubhouse.
Important:  No muddy shoes are allowed in the clubhouse.  Please leave them at the clubhouse entrance.

No drinks will be provided.  However, the golf club bar will be open.

CLOK will provide a (free) buffet for club members attending the AGM.

Covid-19
and other
respiratory
infections:

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

Please:-

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
