Terrain:

This is a rare opportunity to run on this area.

The competition area is a golf course and surrounding grounds.  It consists of very open 'parkland', with short cut grass interspersed with small copses of deciduous and coniferous trees.  The area is gently undulating, with no significant undergrowth even in the trees, and is ideal for fast running.  The cometition area in intersected by the River Wiske, which is not crossable at any point other than the bridges.

There are three ponds, plus ditches, bunkers and steep slopes, all of which should be visible even in low light and, in any case, are well away from optimal routes.

Notes:-

  • Shorts may be worn.
  • All sand bunkers, raised tees and putting greens are out of bounds and must not be crossed.
  • All water features – the ponds and the River Wiske – are also uncrossable.

Please take care not to stray on to the driving range.  It will be in use, and you would be at risk of injury from flying golf balls.  The driving range is well lit and visible on all sides, and it will be pointed out to you at the Start.

Covid-19
and other
respiratory
infections:

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

Please:-

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
