Note: Make sure that you go in via the forest entrance rather than the turning 100m further up the bank, which leads to High Paradise Farm. Terrain: |
Boltby is a typical North Yorkshire forest with a mix of runability and visibility, on a sloping valley with some rock and contour detail. In recent years Boltby Forest has been used in conjunction with Dale Town Common, which has given mixed terrain and used the east-most part of the forest. This event uses the western part of the forest, partly for variety and partly due to impending forestry operations in the more mature eastern part. The good news is that the western part of the forest is now offering better runnability. There has been extensive clear felling, and there are some areas of newly planted forest. The courses are planned to avoid the newly planted areas where possible, although the longer courses may have some interaction with them. There are some deeper stream valleys, open areas that offer good rock detail and some runnable blocks of interesting vegetation. There is a complicated ride network. The map has been updated to reflect the miriad of new mountain bike tracks where they intersect likely route choices, but please bear in mind that mountain bike tracks develop rapidly and the map may not show the most recent changes. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
