Cleveland Orienteering Klub Summer Series event in West Park, Darlington on Saturday 11th May 2024 |
This is the first of four Summer Series events taking place in May and June 2024.
Location: |
West Park is on the west side of the A68 Bishop Auckland road on the northern edge of Darlington. You should be able to park in the Aldi / M&S car park. The postcode is DL2 2GZ, and the What3words reference of the entrance to the car park is ///fade.factories.cried. Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting point.

Terrain: | West Park is an urban park. It is mostly open grassland, with some small wooded areas. The Medium and Long courses also go into quiet residential areas beside the park. | |||||||||||||||||
Courses: |
Anyone under the age of 16 on the day of the event who wishes to run the Medium or Long course must be accompanied by an adult. Children can run the Short course unaccompanied. | |||||||||||||||||

1:4,000 scale 5m contours A4 size Control descriptions will be printed on the map and loose copies will be available at the Start. | |||||||||||||||||
Punching system: |
SPORTident electronic punching will be used. The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the old-fashioned way at the Start and Finish. If you need to hire an SI-card, please order it via the online entry system there is a £1 hire charge and collect it from Download before your run. Remember to return it as you download, and take care of it, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it. A limited number of SI-cards will be available for hire on the day, but please pre-order via the online entry system if at all possible. | |||||||||||||||||

If you wish to participate in this event, please pre-enter via the Racesignup online entry system. The entry deadline is midnight on Thursday 9‑May‑2024. There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you possibly can. | |||||||||||||||||
Second run: | You can run a second course for free, subject to map availability. Register when you download after your first run. | |||||||||||||||||

Facilities: |
Competitors will be able to use the toilets in the White Heifer That Travelled pub. No drinks will be provided. The White Heifer That Travelled will be serving food and drinks. First aid at Download. | |||||||||||||||||
Dogs: | Well behaved dogs are welcome at this event and can be taken out into the competition area, but must be kept on leads at all times. | |||||||||||||||||

Covid-19 and other respiratory infections: |
Covid 19 and other infections e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate at high levels in the community. Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport. However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities. Please:-

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk. Orienteering is an adventure sport your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility. Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course. Lone drivers: Please leave your labelled car keys at Download as a safety check. CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event. If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup. Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time. |
