Cleveland Orienteering Klub invites you to a Night Orienteering event at Cod Beck on Saturday 14th December 2024 |
This event is part of the YHOA Night League.

The event will take place in the woods and on the moorland around Cod Beck Reservoir near Osmotherley, which is easily accessible from the A19. If coming into Osmotherley from the A19, turn left (north) at the T-junction in Osmotherley, then follow the road (Quarry Lane) to the parking in the public car parks to the north east of Cod Beck Reservoir at grid reference SE 469993. The nearest postcode is DL6 3AL and the What3words reference of the entrance to the car park is ///bitter/closer/forgets. Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting location. Parking will be in the two public car parks on Quarry Lane. Please continue along the road until you are met by a parking official, who will direct you. Terrain: |
Mixed woodland and mainly runnable open moorland with paths, streams and contour and rock features. IMPORTANT The Long course crosses a small road, which can have fast-moving traffic. This road is marked as a forbidden route on the competition maps. You can cross the road carefully, please! but you must not run along it. It's fine to run along the verge. If (i) you are a Junior or an M/W55 or older and (ii) you would like to run the Long course and (iii) you want to be competitive in the YHOA Night League, please contact the Organiser as soon as possible, as we need to get clearance from the YHOA Night League Co-ordinator. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

Punching system: |
This event will use SPORTident electronic punching. The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish. SI-cards will not be available for hire on the day. If you need to hire an SI-card, order it via the online entry system there is a £1 hire charge and collect it from Download before your run. Remember to return it as you download, and take care of it, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

The entry deadline is midnight on Sunday 8‑Dec‑2024. After that, you will still be able to enter until midnight on Thursday 12‑Dec‑2024, but there will be a late entry surcharge £1 for Seniors, 50p for Juniors and your choice of course may be limited by map availability. There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps and the late entry surcharge ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you possibly can. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

There will be no toilets at this event. There are public toilets in Osmotherley at What3words reference ///officer.putts.overdrive. First Aid at Download. No drinks will be provided. Please bring your own refreshments. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||
Dogs: | Well behaved dogs are welcome in the car parking areas, but must not be taken out into the competition area. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk. Orienteering is an adventure sport your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility. Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course. CLOK strongly recommends that you carry a whistle while participating in this (and every) orienteering event. If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup. Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time. |
