Cleveland Orienteering Klub invites you to a Dusk / Night Event on Cleveland Links Golf Course on Tuesday 21st January 2025 |
Location: |
Cleveland Links golf course is on the North Sea coast just west of Redcar. The first choice for parking will be in the Cleveland Golf Club car park. The grid reference of the entrance to the car park is NZ 591252, the postcode is TS10 5BJ and the What3words reference is ///grace.price.robots. Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting location. In the unlikely event the golf club car park looks as if it's getting full, please park in the public car park off Majuba Road. The grid reference of the entrance to that car park is NZ 489142, the postcode is TS10 5BJ and the What3words reference is ///lunch.rocks.gets. We suggest that you park in the western part of this car park, as the competition area is to the west of the car park. According to the Redcar & Cleveland Council web site, the 'pay and display' parking charges between 8 a.m. and 6 p.m. are £1.20 for 1 hour, £2.40 for 2 hours, £3.60 for 3 hours or £4.80 for all day. Please note that there will be no orienteering signs to this event.
Download / Enquiries / SI-card collection will be upstairs in the golf clubhouse.
Terrain: |
The competition area is a golf course. It consists of open fairways with short-cut grass, separated by well-contoured sandy ridges with short grass. The higher ridges around the edge of the map have longer grass and some small areas of thick bushes or bramble (shown on the map with green hash lines). Unlike most of the golf courses we use for these Dusk / Night events, there are very few trees, and the area is ideal for fast running. Paths vary from hardsurfaced to grass cut'. There are some ditches please cross them by the marked bridges or run around their ends. The golf greens and bunkers are out of bounds and must not be crossed, but can be useful to aid navigation. If a bunker is used as a control site then marker will be placed about 1 metre outside the bunker. Other notes
Please note that the golf course is in an exposed, coastal location and the event is taking place in the depths of winter. Dress appropriately for the conditions; e.g. consider wearing a warm hat and gloves. And you may find a torch helpful (!). If the weather is bad, it may be compulsory to wear or carry a cagoule. Please come prepared.
