Parking will be in the Harold Wilson Recreation Area car park, which is accessed from Bader Avenue a short distance west from the spitfire roundabout on the A1045 in Thornaby. The postcode is TS17 0HE and the What3words reference of the entrance to the car park is ///risen.slime.sports. Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting location. Terrain: |
The competition area includes quiet residential areas, some of which are surprisingly complex, as well as riverside woodland. All the courses will require competitors to cross quiet residential roads. Please take appropriate care. In addition to the quiet residential roads, there is one route that, although not particularly busy, is both a bus route and the local residents' main route into and of the area. The Long and Short courses do not cross this route, but the Medium course crosses it where there is a pedestrian island. The crossing point will be indicated on the map, but will be not be marshalled. Anyone under the age of 16 on the day of the event must be accompanied by an adult if they are running the Long or Medium course. As always, please be considerate towards the members of the public who are sharing this area with us. | ||||||||||||||||

Punching system: |
SPORTident electronic punching will be used. The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish. If you need to hire an SI-card, please order it via the Racesignup online entry system and collect it from Download before your run. There will be a £1 hire charge. Remember to return your hired SI-card as you download after your run, and take care of it, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it. A limited number of SI-cards will be available for hire on the day, but please pre-order via the online entry system if at all possible. | ||||||||||||||||

The entry deadline is midnight on Thursday 1‑May‑2025. There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you can. | ||||||||||||||||

Competitors will be able to use the toilets in the recreation centre changing rooms. First aid at Download. No drinks will be provided. Please bring your own. | ||||||||||||||||
Dogs: | Well behaved dogs are welcome at this event, and you can take your dog out on your course provided that you keep it on a short lead and take great care not to cause a hazard to members of the public or other competitors. (You'll also need to pick up after your dog, of course.) | ||||||||||||||||

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course. A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the organising team, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk. Orienteering is an adventure sport your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility. CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle at this (and every) orienteering event. If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup. Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time. |
