Autumn Short Race Series event in

Albert Park, Middlesbrough

on Saturday 6th December 2025

This is the third event in CLOK's 2025 Autumn Short Race Series.

Newcomers to orienteering:   Help and advice will be available at this event.  Just come along and ask!

Location:

Albert Park is an urban park in Middlesbrough.  The recommended parking is along Park Vale Road, which runs along the eastern edge of the park.  There are currently no charges for parking on this road.  The nearest postcode is TS5 6LG.

If you can't find a parking space on Park Vale Road, there is also parking on Park Road North ..... but there is a parking charge (which you can pay via the Ringo app).

Please note that there will be no orienteering signs to this event.

Please enter Albert Park via the south east entrance (at the junction of Park Vale Road and Park Road South).  Enquiries and Download will be at the Visitor Centre at What3words reference ///useful.pops.gloves.

Terrain:

Urban park with buildings, a lake, statues and many special features.  There are some 're-wilded' areas.

As always, please be considerate to other users of the area.  The park is extensively used by dog walkers, and there are also occasional cyclists passing through.

Courses:

There will be three courses available, with winning times of about 25 minutes:

Open  3.2 km    20m climb 
Youth / Vet (M/W18- and M/W55+)    2.6 km15m climb
Junior (M/W14-)1.4 km5m climb

The course details are subject to final adjustment.

The Open course incorporates 'butterfly loops'.  If you're not familiar with these, please ask the Start official for an explanation.

Control descriptions will be printed on the map and loose copies will be available at the Start.

Punching system:

This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.

The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish.

SI-cards will be available to hire on the day for a charge of £1.  Please take care of your hired SI-card, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it.

Entries:

If you wish to participate in this event, please pre-enter via the Racesignup online entry system.

The entry deadline is midnight on Thursday 4‑Dec‑2025.

There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps (and, of course, the late entry surcharge) ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you possibly can.

Times:

Starts: 11 a.m. to 12 noon.     Courses close at 1 p.m.

The Start and Finish are both 2 minutes' walk from the Visitor Centre.

Second run: You can run a second course for free, subject to map availability.  Register when you download after your first run, and please start your first run early enough to enable you to finish your second run before the courses close at 1 p.m.

There are toilets in the Albert Park Visitor Centre.

Please either bring your own refreshments or, preferably, visit the cafe in the Visitor Centre, which is run as a Community Interest Company.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs are welcome at this event and can be taken out into the competition area, but if you do this then please be very careful not to cause a hazard for other competitors or members of the public.

Photography: Anyone taking photos or videos at this event must do so in accordance with CLOK's Photography and Filming Policy.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup or inform the Organiser before you go out for your run.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
