Location:

Lazenby Bank and Eston Moor are on the south side of Middlesbrough, east of the A19 and south of the A174.

Parking and Enquiries / Download are will be at the NHS offices off Flatts Lane, Normanby on the south side of Middlesbrough.  For most people the best approach is from the A171 between Nunthrope and Guisborough.  (Please note there is no access directly on to Flatts Lane from the A174 eastbound).  The What3words reference of the entrance to the car park is ///firm.eating.tanks and the postcode is TS6 0SZ.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.  You can also get directions if you put in your starting location.

There will be plenty of space to park coaches, minibuses and motor homes.  Please note that the NHS Centre car park will be locked over Saturday night and overnight parking is not allowed.   There is, however, free 24/7 parking in the Flatts Lane Country Park car park, which is just across the road from the NHS Centre.  Toilets are available in the Country Park Visitor Centre between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m., but camping, barbecues and fires are strictly prohibited.

Please take care if you're crossing the road between the Country Park and the NHS Centre, as vehicles come down the hill at high speed.

Terrain:

There are two distinct parts to the competition area.

Lazenby Bank is on a fairly steep slope at the northern edge of the North York Moors.  The north-eastern part of the slope is wooded, with some complex contoured areas.  The south-western part is more open, with small patches of trees and a number of rock and contour features.  The bracken in the open areas will be dead at this time of year, but it will still be a hindrance to progress.  There are many paths of various sizes all along Lazenby Bank.

Eston Moor extends from the top of the south-western part of Lazenby Bank.  It is a relatively flat area of open moorland with many paths, a few wooded areas and areas of thicker vegetation.  Quite a lot of the moor offers fast running.

Throughout both parts of the competition area there are many traces of former industry and other human uses going back as far as the Bronze Age.

Note:  As the event is taking place in February and the competition area includes exposed moorland, it's quite possible that cagoules may be made compulsory.  Please come prepared.
