Rachel Baker has been appointed as CLOK's Club Development Officer.
A message from the CLOK Chair
I'm delighted to announce that we have appointed Rachel Baker as our Club Development Officer (CDO) with a new, family-focused contract for service. Rachel will get support and mentoring from her aunt, Sarah Hague, who is a very experienced orienteer and coach and a long-standing friend of CLOK. Sarah will also provide continuity when Rachel heads off to Scandinavia to continue her own orienteering development.
The plan is that Rachel will do the CDO role during her gap year before university, most of which she'll spend with Sarah in Stokesley. She's also looking forward to packing in lots of competing while she's here in the UK.
Many of you will know Sarah from the time some years ago when she was coaching our large group of promising juniors. (Since then, the number of juniors has dwindled, although the quality is still there.) She then went off to spend six years leading the British Squad development.
Between them, Rachel and Sarah make a really strong team to continue our club development activities, support our on-going Couch-2-Green (C2G) programme and introduce new ideas on how to attract more families into orienteering and CLOK membership.
Rachel will be arriving back from New Zealand on 16th February, just in time to enjoy competing for us in the CompassSport Cup heat near Pickering. (I hope she's not too jet-lagged!)
I'd also like to thank Mary Fleming for her excellent work over the last two-and-a-half years, which helped us to move our club forward in a whole variety of innovative ways. Her creativity in developing and delivering the C2G courses has been notable, and several other English orienteering clubs have adopted the same approach.
Caroline Mackenzie CLOK Chair
P.S. Thanks to the Orienteering Foundation for providing financial support to enable us to establish and maintain the CDO role.
