Click on the link to see a map.  You can switch to Satellite mode and zoom in to see the details of the final approach to the car park.  You can also get directions if you specify your starting location.

From the A171 between Guisborough to Whitby, just east of Lockwood Beck reservoir, turn south following signs to Hutton-le-Hole and Castleton.  After 2.2 miles, turn right following the sign to Commondale.  At the bottom of a very steep bank, you enter the village.  As you go through the village (which is very small) you will drive past the Cleveland Inn Pub on your left and then pass a couple of cottages on your right.  Just after the cottages, turn right into a lane.  After crossing a small metal bridge you will come to the Raven Gill Camp main gate on your right.  Drive through the gate – closing it behind you – and continue along the track for about 200m to get to the event car park.

Terrain: Raven Gill Scout Camp is located on the site of the former Commondale Brick Works.  The Scout Camp buildings are scattered across the site, which is now primarily sheep-grazed grassland with scattered trees in a shallow stream-drained valley.  The buildings are linked by gravel tracks.  There are some steep banks and small crags around the western edges of the site, plus a small area of more complex contours.  There is a small area of woodland at the head of the valley.

There will be three courses available, each with a winning time of about 15 - 25 minutes:-

Youth / Vet (M/W18- and M/W55+):      1.9 km80m climb

and other

Covid 19 and other infections – e.g. influenza, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) and adenovirus) continue to circulate in the community.

Orienteering is an outdoor, naturally socially-distanced sport.  However, although you should be relatively safe when you are out on your run, there is a risk of virus transmission during the pre- and post-run activities.

  • Do not attend this event if you have respiratory infection symptoms.
  • Maintain good hand hygiene.
  • Be mindful of other people's space.  Some people may be more concerned than you are about avoiding close contact.

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle whilst participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
