>> Follow this link for information about orienteering events, including advice on how to select an appropriate course for your level of fitness and navigational experience.
Location:

Parking will be at the Eastbourne Sports Complex, off Bourne Avenue on the east side of Darlington.  The postcode is DL1 1LJ and the What3words reference for the entrance to the car park is ///images.lovely.just.

Click on the link to see a map.  You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event.

A lot of junior football matches take place in the Sports Complex on Saturday mornings, so the car park may be very busy.  If it is full, please use the (free) on-street parking in the nearby residential streets.

Enquiries / Download will be in the foyer of the Sports Centre, which is adjacent to the car park.

Terrain: The competition area includes quiet complex residential areas and modern, green college campus areas.  The area is quite flat, especially compared to Runswick Bay!
Courses:

There will be three courses available.

Open:2.6 km
Youth / Vet(M/W18- and M/W55+):    1.6 km
Junior (M/W14-):1.1 km

Courses planned by Chris Wright.

Map:

Scale 1:4,000   A4 size.   New map by Phill Batts.

Control descriptions will be printed on the map and loose copies will be available at the Start.

Punching system:

This event will use SPORTident electronic punching.

The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish.

If you need to hire an SI-card, please order it via the online entry system – there is a £1 hire charge – and collect it from Download before your run.  Remember to return it as you download, and take care of it, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it.  A limited number of SI-cards will be available for hire on the day, but please pre-order via the online entry system if possible.

Entries:

If you wish to participate in this event, please pre-enter via the Racesignup online entry system.

The entry fees are:
Seniors:£5.00
Juniors / Students:   £2.00

The online entry deadline is midnight on Thursday 28‑Nov‑2024.

There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you possibly can.

Times:

Starts: 10 a.m. to 11 a.m.     Courses close at 12 noon.

The Start and Finish are close together, approximately 500 metres from the car park.

IMPORTANT:  The route to the Start (and back from the Finish) includes a road crossing, so anyone under the age of 12 on the day of the event must be accompanied on the walk to the Start and the walk back from the Finish.  The Planner will be happy to 'co-opt' adult finishers to escort young juniors back to Download.  Parents: Please brief any young children about this arrangement (and whether they should take advantage of it or wait for you at the Finish).

Second run: You can run a second course for free, subject to map availability.  Register when you download after your first run.  If you intend to do a second run, please start your first run early enough to enable you to finish your second run before the courses close at 12 noon.
Facilities:

Toilets are available in the Sports Centre, which is adjacent to the car park.

First aid at Download.

Dogs: Well-behaved dogs are welcome at this event – and can be taken out on the courses – but must be kept on leads at all times.  If you decide to take your dog out on your course, please be very careful not to cause a hazard to members of the public or other competitors.  (You'll also need to pick up after your dog, of course.)
Organiser: Caroline Mackenzie     Tel: 07973-870529
Photography: Anyone taking photos or videos at this event must do so in accordance with CLOK's Photography and Filming Policy.
Safety:

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

Please make sure that you download even if you do not complete your course.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle while participating in this (and every) orienteering event.

If you have a relevant medical condition, please add this to your competitor details in Racesignup.  Any information provided will be treated in strict confidence and will only be used if you need medical treatment and are unable to communicate at the time.
