Want some help with your orienteering development? |
At this event, anyone who wants to move up a course or get a confidence boost including previous or current Couch 2 Green students can be shadowed by an experienced CLOK orienteer. The idea is to enable you to tackle a navigationally more difficult course with the knowledge that you'll have back-up if you get lost. Your shadower will also be able to give you some hints and tips after your run; e.g. "I noticed that you tend to veer off your bearings. You can correct that by ........." If your shadower gives you assistance during your competition run, please declare yourself as 'non-competitive' when you download. (Advice after your run is fine.) For more information, or to request a shadower, contact Becca Mayes via 07707-720414. |
Location: |
Parking will be at Gribdale Gate, on the edge of the North York Moors above Great Ayton. The postcode is TS9 6HN, but please note that you need to continue on past this small settlement and up on to the moor. The What3words reference is ///candidate.tile.thrones. The event will be signed from the junction of High Street and Station Road in Great Ayton (at grid reference NZ 564105). Click on the link to see a map. You can zoom in (and, optionally, switch to Satellite mode) to see the details of the final approach to the event. You can also get directions if you specify your starting location. Parking will be at the roadside. Follow the marshals' directions. Gribdale Gate is a very popular location and we will be sharing the limited parking space with members of the public, so please share transport wherever possible and arrive early if you can. Enquiries / Download will be adjacent to the car park.
Terrain: |
Runnable open moorland with plenty of paths, streams, contour and rock features. There are fine views of the Cleveland Hills, North Yorkshire Moors and in the distance on a clear day the Yorkshire Dales. The longer courses (Brown, Blue and Green) may cross an area of thick bracken. The higher parts of Ayton Moor are very exposed. In the event of bad weather, we may need to make cagoules compulsory. Please come prepared.
