Location:

Parking will be at the public car park at Flatts Lane Country Park.  The best approach for most people will be via the A171 (between Marton and Guisborough).  Turn left (if heading east) or right (if heading west) on to Flatts Lane, which is signposted Flatts Lane Country Park.  It is also possible to get to the event from Normanby High Street.

The Country Park entrance is at grid reference NZ 552167 and the What3words reference is ///rabble.reward.parts.  The postcode is TS6 0NN.

Parking space is limited, so please share transport if possible.

Event organisation (including Download) will be in the Flatts Lane Country Park Visitor Centre.

Terrain:

Well established wood on the lower slopes of the Eston Hills.  There are an extensive network of paths and many features.

Please be considerate towards other users of the country park.  In particular, please watch out for horses, give them plenty of space and take care not to startle them.

1:7,500 scale.   Updated in 2025 by Dennis Hooton and Dave Riches.

Control descriptions will be printed on the map, and loose copies will be available at the Start.

Punching system:

SPORTident electronic punching will be used.

The control boxes will be activated to enable SIAC cards to operate in touch-free mode ..... but please note that you will need to punch the conventional way at the Start and Finish.

If you need to hire an SI-card (£1), please order it via the Racesignup online entry system and collect it from Download before your run.  Remember to return it as you download, and take care of it, as there will be a £20 charge if you lose it.  A limited number of SI-cards will be available for hire on the day, but please pre-order via the online entry system if at all possible.

Entries:

If you wish to participate in this event, please pre-enter via the Racesignup online entry system.

The entry fees are:
Seniors:£8.5       £2.00 surcharge for non-members of British Orienteering
Juniors / students:   £2.50 

The entry deadline is midnight on Sunday 27‑Apr‑2025.  After that, you will still be able to enter until midnight on Friday 2‑May‑2025, but there will be a £2 late entry surcharge for Seniors and your choice of course may be limited by map availability.

There will be very limited entry on the day subject to the availability of maps (and, of course, the late entry surcharge) ..... but please make every effort to pre-enter if you possibly can.

Yvette Baker:
Trophy Heat:

Competitors in the Yvette Baker Trophy Heat should enter the event individually as usual, making sure that they enter an appropriate course for their age class.  (If in doubt, see the Yvette Baker Trophy Rules.)

Team Managers: Please give the Organiser a list of the competitors who are running for your team in the Yvette Baker Trophy competition.

Starts:

10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m.       Courses close at 2 p.m.

The Start is approximately 5 minutes' walk from the car park.

Facilities:

Toilets in the Visitor Centre.

No drinks will be provided, and unfortunately the cafe in the Visitor Centre will not be open.  Please bring your own refreshments for after your run.

First aid at Download.

Dogs: Well behaved dogs on leads are welcome at this event.  You can take your dog out on your course, provided that you keep it on a short lead and take great care not to cause a hazard to members of the public or other competitors.  (You'll also need to pick up after your dog, of course.)

A comprehensive risk assessment will have been carried out by the Organiser, but please remember that competitors take part at their own risk.  Orienteering is an adventure sport – your safety while orienteering is your own responsibility.

CLOK recommends that you carry a whistle while participating in this (and every) orienteering event.
